Tom Hardy on the set of WAZ - going from just slightly insane but still ok, to really-quite-insane to completely off his head. Such a weirdo. *g*

Tom Hardy on the set of WAZ - he loved his gold teeth, that’s for sure! :)

Sometimes, Tom’s very well thought out details on his characters are more interesting than the film itself. This is what Tom had to say about his character in WAZ (or W delta Z):

One of Jean Lerner’s key victims, Pierre Jackson, is played by rising British star Tom Hardy.  Hardy says, “Pierre is a psycho white trash drug dealer, a tattooed cocaine addict and a gun-toting loser. Having moved through some of that behaviour in my own  past, I based him on reality. No one hates Pierre more than himself and that was the crux of my characterisation. Uber-violence isn’t me at all but I enjoyed the fun of being able to go to the complete extreme. As Pierre, I’m rude and  obnoxious, cause maximum damage and kill people while flashing a full set of gold teeth. It’s wonderful stuff to play on a large canvas”.
He smiles,  “My torture scenes are terrific too.  Jean wires me up to a chair in her filthy charnel house and places my grandmother opposite. I’m then given the choice to kill her or sacrifice myself. My torment involves two nails… I gave free range to my emotions and indulged myself in the fantasy of the moments. I played Pierre like a darker shaded Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet but with Clive Bradley’s succinct lines rather than Shakespeare’s. Everyone has been excitedly stretched because the writing is of such a high quality and pitched at such a high level that we all had to work hard for emotional authenticity from one moment to the next. I enjoyed that side of it. So much work doesn’t challenge you in such a way. W∆Z felt like tightrope walking some of the time, one slip and you’re off. But that tension is pleasing and produces great work”.

Romeo & Juliet? Terrific torture scenes? Really, Tom?
Also, this is an excuse to post this photo, which I love. And not only because Stellan is Swedish, like me. :)
